Bill Emory’s Policy Action Vision for South Minneapolis and Minnesota
I am running to enact policy and allocate dollars that will make a material improvement in our neighbors’ lives here in South Minneapolis. I am driven to work on behalf of the residents of 62B.
This week, we have been rolling out policy action plans for my first term at the Minnesota House. As we introduce these ideas, I want to hear from you!
Email me at [email protected] with you thoughts, concerns, questions, and support.
I look forward to listening to your experiences and incorporating your insights into making better policy decisions for us all.
Thank you!
Bill Emory
Bill Emory’s Action Plan for a Green Transition
For too long, we have allowed fossil fuels and corporations to pollute our communities. We can build a more sustainable energy future:
Invest in job training to support a just transition to a green economy.
Implement rapid decarbonization to move towards Net-Zero Emissions.
Expand communal and cooperative ownership of energy generation.
Expand infrastructure for public transit and electric cars & trucks.
Bill Emory’s Action Plan for Accessible Mobility
Everyone deserves freedom of mobility. We must ensure that working families, as well as children and our seniors, can access their jobs, homes and services, safely, without needing to drive.
Expand the public transit system so that everyone who relies on transit can count on frequent, reliable, and comprehensive service.
Modernize the mission of the Minnesota Department of Transportation (MNDOT) to reduce freeway expansion and instead prioritize mass transit projects.
Boost funding for an all-electric transportation system.
Bill Emory’s Action Plan for Environmental Justice
Everyone deserves clean air and water. Pollution and water infrastructure disrepair is a public health crisis across Minnesota. We can support community health:
Shut down the Smith Foundry, clean up the site, and repurpose for community.
Invest to repair tap water and sewer infrastructure across Minnesota.
Prevent the construction of new fossil fuel projects across Minnesota.
Pass legislation to protect vulnerable communities from polluting industries.
Bill Emory’s Action Plan for Abundant + Affordable Homes
Housing is a human right. Everyone deserves a quality home that is safe and affordable. I will be a strong leader at the Capitol on reinvesting in and expanding affordable housing options for South Minneapolis and all of Minnesota.
Preserve naturally occurring affordable housing (NOAH) options.
Empower tenants with stronger renter protections.
Increase funding towards creation and preservation of cooperative housing.
Reform planning and zoning standards to ensure quality affordable housing can be built in every neighborhood.
Bill Emory’s Action Plan for Better Jobs + Workers’ Rights
For workers and families to thrive, we need living wages, strong worker protections, and higher union membership across Minnesota.
Defend collective bargaining rights with new Minnesota state protections.
Expand workplace protections to have more healthy, safe, and stable jobs.
Pass and enact a leading $20-per-hour Minnesota minimum wage.
Strengthen enforcement of wage theft statutes on the books, and pass new reforms and funding for enforcement.
Bill Emory’s Action Plan for Public Education
We need to invest in quality public education to meet our students’ needs and address racial disparities in opportunities and outcomes. Every parent deserves to feel confident that they are sending their children to a great public school or daycare.
Fully-fund schools and eliminate funding gaps for special education and ELL programs.
Cap childcare expenses at 7% of household income.
Provide districts with the support and direction to create more full-service community schools.
Invest in recruitment, support, and retention for educators of color.
Provide tuition-free higher education at public colleges, universities, and vocational schools for in-state residents.
Bill Emory’s Action Plan for Health Care for All
Access to health care is a human right. We need a health care system that is culturally responsive and affordable to all Minnesotans.
Expand Minnesota Medicaid / Medical Assistance insurance as a pathway toward single-payer health care.
Increase funding for health insurance navigators rooted in trusted community institutions.
Expand addiction treatment options through increased funding to culturally relevant organizations and institutions.
Defend bodily autonomy, freedom of choice in health care decisions, and the right to comprehensive reproductive health care options.
